There is almost no limitation in facing materials that can be used, from standard, color-coated steel panels to masonry or glass. The real measure of Pre-Engineered Building quality lies in the system itself. The design, assembly and fit of beams, girts and purlins are critical to the integrity of the structure.   The Building shall include the structural framing, roofing, siding, bracing, doors, windows, hardware, fasteners, sealants and any other component parts for the metal building as specified or shown on the drawings.

Design CONSIDERATIONS


DESIGN CODES
All Structural steel sections and welded plate members shall be designed in accordance with American Institute of steel construction (AISC) and Metal Building Manufacturer Association (MBMA).   All light- gage, cold-formed, structural members and coverings shall be designed in accordance with the latest edition of the American Iron & Steel Institute "Specification for the design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members".   Design calculations will be provided upon request. With the pre-engineered building approach, you can expect about 30% lower in cost than conventional steel..

DESIGN LOADS
The loads considered shall be clearly expressed in our proposal offers. The building shall be designed to safely resist these loads.
Loads are applied in accordance with the International Building code (IBC) latest edition). Load combinations shall also be in accordance to the IBC and MBMA codes.

All framing members are shop fabricated for bolted field assembly. All members are cleaned by mechanical brushing, sand or shot blasting to remove dirt, grease, loose mill scale prior to paint application where necessary. The paint is applied on black steel as per customer specific request or one coat of oxide primer.

                                        PRIMARY STRUCTURE




 


The primary structural support system is more often called the main framing system and depends on the type of frame selected depending on the building function. Primary framing shall be the main load carrying structural members consisting of columns and rafters. These members shall support secondary structural members.   

Rigid frame are comprised of two or more columns fixed to rafters using rigid (moment) connections. 
The space between the rigid frames of a steel building is referred to as a bay space. The most economic bay space is determined by the building width. Typically the bay space is between 6m to 9m.  
Bearing frames are typically endwalls consisting of a series of rafters and columns/endwall posts.

BUILDING WIDTH

The building width can be defined as out-to-out from the back sidewall to the front sidewall outermost steel lines. Building width can also be defined as center-to-center, center of the anchor bolts of the rigid frame columns.

BUILDING LENGTH

The building length defines the outermost steel lines from the left endwall to the right endwall. Bay spacing (distance between frame columns) is then taken as most optimized or should be given for pre-defined existing foundation layout.

BUILDING HEIGHT

Building height will by default be understood as the eave height, the distance between the finish floor level and the point where the sidewalls meet the roof. For further design limitations, customer can also define the minimum clear height required, the distance finish floor level to the lowest point under the rafter beams.

secondary Structure

The secondary support consists of purlins, girts, eave struts and bracing members. They distribute the load from the panel area to the primary member s and horizontal loads such as wind ad seismic.  Secondary structural framing also include flange bracing, base angles, clips and other miscellaneous structural parts.

Basic secondary elements are composed of multiple items; they all work together to provide for the structural integrity of building and its envelope.

PURLINS, GIRTS AND EAVE STRUTS

Purlins, girts and eave struts used are cold-formed sections from galvanized steel and having a minimum yield strength of 350MN/m² (50,000psi) and will conform to the physical specifications of ASTM A-607 (Grade 50) or equivalent.

CONNECTION CLIPS

Clips are used to connect secondary members to primary members. They are usually bolted together for easy erection on site.

STRUCTURAL BRACING

To protect from high winds, snow loads or crane loads additional reinforcement is required using bracing systems. Different bracing systems are applied depending on condition, and building limitations.  Standard diagonal cable bracing, portal bracing, knee and diaphragm bracing are among the most common used.

CONNECTIONS

All field connections shall be bolted (unless otherwise noted) All primary bolted connections shall furnish with high strength bolts conforming to the physical specifications of ASTM A-325 or equivalent.
All secondary bolted connections shall be furnished with machine bolts conforming to the physical specifications of ASTM A-307 (or equivalent ).
All shop connections shall be welded using either submerged or shielded arc process, and welding shall be in accordance with the applicable sections, relating to design requirements and allowable stresses, of the latest edition of the American Welding Society "Structural Welding Code".

ANCHORAGE


The building anchor bolts shall be designed to resist the column reactions resulting from the specified loads. All metal buildings are built on top of a foundation concrete slab with concrete footings, which is formed under a column. A footing distributes the load created by the metal building support member into the supporting soil. Anchor bolts are set in the footing to “anchor” the column or structural members.
A metal base plate is a pre-punched metal plate which comes already welded to the base of the column or structural member. The pre-punched plate fits over the anchor bolts.

In the most effective way, we shall get your building to your preferred destination port, or to the site location.
With our experience and know-how we can maximize container capacity, or trailer loading to make sure that your building reaches the site at minimum cost. 
You will receive all members marked and labeled. You will also receive drawings for erection. The building components will be put together like a LEGO, and with minimum time duration at site. 

You can always ask for a DALAL STEEL Certified builder to supervise and guide with the building installation.
